Made for Their Comfort

You didn’t even notice when the rules were written. You just learned to stop crying when you were hurt… start laughing it off when you were angry… apologize when you weren’t really sorry.

Somewhere along the way, their message landed:

  • Don’t be dramatic.
  • Don’t take up too much space.
  • Don’t make things uncomfortable.

You learned to bottle, to bury, to shrink.
You got really good at “being fine.”

But what if those rules… how you’re supposed to feel, express, or react… were never yours to begin with? They were given to you by others so they could be more comfortable.

But the rules that kept everyone else comfortable… they require you to stay small, quiet, “safe.”

That’s the thing about these inherited rules… they’re subtle, but effective.
They get written in the pauses… in the raised eyebrows… in the praise you got for “not being too much.”

Without even realizing it, you’ve built a whole life around them. You’ve worked hard to never be “too much” in their eyes. You’ve been made for their comfort.

If you ask me, I’d say it’s time to flip that script.

Ask yourself:

  • Where did this rule even come from?
  • Who benefits from me staying quiet?
  • And do I even agree with it now?

Because it’s hard to live a big, full, bold life…
When you’re still trying to be the “right kind” of person for someone else’s comfort.

Maybe it’s time to allow yourself to be “too damn much!”

Because these rules don’t just shape what you do…
They shape what you believe you’re allowed to feel.
